About Mr. Goodwin:
Born and raised outside of Philadelphia, I graduated from the University of Richmond (VA) in 1996 with a degree in political science but shortly found myself in a long career within the world of finance. My career took me from London to NYC to San Diego and to Boston until I finally recognized it was time to chase my dream of becoming a high school history teacher and coach.
After returning to San Diego and receiving my Masters in Education from University of San Diego, I was fortunate enough to be hired at Bonita Vista HS where I have taught social science classes and coached the golf team ever since.
As an avid traveler (all of Europe, Morocco, Central America, the United States), I have been mesmerized up close with many of the works of art with which our APAH students will need to become familiar. Seeing Michelangelo's 17-foot marble statue David in Florence was one of the more moving experiences of my life. However, that experience resonated so deeply with me because I had studied and read about Michelangelo years before. There would be no greater honor than to inspire my students to one day explore a similar journey.
When I am not teaching, coaching or traveling, you will often find me hiking, camping, freshwater and deep-sea fishing, oil painting, wood-working and reading great history books! Oh...and of course, playing with my rescue mutt, Cali :)
